INS announces: the average monthly pension increased by 9.9% in the first quarter of 2022

According to the INS, in the first quarter of 2022, the average number of retirees was 5024 thousand people, down by 34 thousand people compared to the previous quarter, and the average number of state social insurance retirees was 4617 thousand people, decreasing by 26 thousand people compared to the previous quarter.

The average monthly pension (determined taking into account the amounts for pensions of all categories of pensioners – social insurance, disability, survivor, etc. – paid by pension funds) was 1846
lei, increasing by 9.9% compared to the previous quarter.

The average state social insurance pension was 1772 lei, and the ratio between the average net nominal state social insurance pension for the age limit with full contribution period
(excluding tax and social health insurance contribution) and the average net earnings were 54.4% (compared to 50.9% in the previous quarter).

The average monthly pension and the average state social insurance pension increased compared to the previous quarter, by 9.9% and 10.2%, respectively.

Social security retirees hold the majority share (99.98%) in the total number of retirees. State social insurance pensioners represent 91.9% of the total social insurance pensioners. By categories of pensions, the number of pensioners for old age was predominant (79.4%) among social security pensioners. Retirees in the pension categories – early and partially early – accounted for 2.3%.

The total ratio between the average number of state social insurance retirees and that of their employees was 8 to 10. According to INS, this ratio shows significant variations in territorial profile, from only 4 retirees to 10 employees in Ilfov County, at 15 retirees for 10 employees in Teleorman county, 14 for 10 in Giurgiu and Vaslui counties.

The average state social insurance pension varied with significant discrepancies in the territorial profile, the gap between the minimum and the maximum value being 943 lei (1407 lei in Botoṣani county, 1419 lei
in Giurgiu county, 1426 lei in Vrancea county compared to 2350 lei in Hunedoara county, 2245 lei in Bucharest and 2084 lei in Braṣov county).
