Iohannis, discussion with the President of Hungary: Projects of interest should not be discriminatory

The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, had, on Friday, a meeting with the President of Hungary, Katalin Novák, on the sidelines of the Bucharest 9 (B9) Format Summit, held in Bucharest.

The President of Romania expressed his full readiness to deepen the dialogue and cooperation at the highest level with the Hungarian side.

“Given the great potential for cooperation between Romania and Hungary, President Klaus Iohannis stressed the importance of pragmatic cooperation and in the right parameters, in the logic of a genuine and sincere strategic partnership, in European spirit, guided by the principles of the Treaty of Understanding, Cooperation and Good Neighborhood. between Romania and the Republic of Hungary (Timişoara, September 16, 1996) and of the Declaration on Romanian-Hungarian Cooperation and Strategic Partnership for 21st Century Europe (Budapest, November 29, 2002), the signing of which marks its 20th anniversary this year. The President of Romania reiterated the importance of dialogue in resolving all issues of bilateral interest and in avoiding unilateral approaches, which cannot lead to sustainable and effective solutions. In this context, President Klaus Iohannis underlined the deep conviction of the Romanian authorities that persons belonging to national minorities, as exponents of the societies they belong to, contribute to the creation and consolidation of bridges between the state of citizenship and the state whose ethnic origin they have it, having an important role in the promotion and development of the cooperation relations between them “, the Presidential Administration transmitted, after the meeting.

Emphasizing the importance of developing bilateral economic and sectoral cooperation, Iohannis pleaded for “projects of interest not to be discriminatory on the basis of ethnicity, not limited to certain parts of Romania and to comply with Romanian or European law.”
