The government welcomes the adoption of Romania’s Accession Roadmap to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development during the final session of the OECD Council’s ministerial meeting on Friday. According to a press release from the Executive, the Roadmap sets out the terms, conditions and stages of Romania’s accession to the Organization and aims to align domestic legislation, policies and practices with those of the OECD.

“The document mentions the sectoral committees that will assess compliance with OECD legislation and practices, the principles that will guide their work, as well as the manner in which accession talks with the Romanian authorities will take place. The Roadmap emphasizes the importance of common values, vision and priorities. Quoted in the communiqué, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca stated that the adoption of the Roadmap for Romania’s accession to the OECD is an encouraging signal and a recognition of our country’s potential for convergence with states with consolidated economies.

“This guidance document on the sectoral objectives and the criteria that Romania will have to meet gives us a clear and objective picture of the directions in which we must direct our efforts for the success of the accession talks. We aim to implement the best practices and standards The OECD, all the more so as they converge or are complementary to those that Romania has already assumed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and can contribute to the fulfillment of the governing program “, said Prime Minister Ciuca.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the adoption at the same OECD Council Ministerial Meeting on 9-10 June 2022 of a series of Recommendations in areas essential for economic and social development, such as small and medium-sized enterprise policy, better opportunities for young people, and the fight against crime. fiscal or sustainable development.

“Romania, in turn, has joined the respective recommendations, through a process of inter-institutional coordination facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the statement added.
