Over 400 Polaroid photographs exhibited during a first cultural exchange between Esch-sur-Alzette (European Capital of Culture in 2022) and Timisoara

Esch-sur-Alzette is one of the European Capitals of Culture in 2022. The opening of the “Expolaroid” exhibition will take place on Monday, March 14, at 18:30, at the Youth House, where “instant camera” photos will be exhibited in a cultural exchange between Esch-sur-Alzette – European Capital of Culture in 2022 and Timișoara. Over 400 6×6 cm Polaroid snapshots will be exhibited in the unique exhibition as a pre-event of the international festival Analog Mania, which this year reaches its 10th anniversary edition.

“This year’s edition seems to be a special one not only for the simple fact that it is an anniversary edition, but also by dissipating several events throughout the year. In all 10 years I have organized the festival exclusively in the fall. This pre-event in March is a happy premiere for Analog Mania, and the partnership with MJC Villerupt through the Expolaroid project can only honor us. ”- Emil Kindlein, founder of Analog Mania

“Expolaroid” is a world event based on the famous instant movie invented by Edwin Landwhich exposes and highlights all the artistic manifestations around this environment.
This Villerupt student photography project is inspired by the “Family of Man” collection. This collection consists of 503 photographs taken by 273 authors from 68 countries, which were collected by Edward Steichen for the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA).

The themes chosen for this project are love, belief in humanity, birth, work, family, education, children, equality, equity, war and peace. Using the participatory art method for expression, it is desired that the works made by the students from Villerupt show on the one hand the universality of human experienceand on the other hand outstanding photography capability to (self) reflect.

“The European Capital of Culture is a context and an opportunity for international collaboration for all cultural operators and not only, to bring diversity to the local public. 2022 is the European Year of Youth, so we set out to promote young artists in bilateral cooperation, as well as to create opportunities for young people. As already mentioned, the works on display at the Expolaroid exhibition are works by young people who express their feelings, hopes and worldviews on the main themes of the project. We continue our collaborations with the cities that hold or will hold the title of European Capital of Culture, so Casa Tineretului hosts the first presence in Esch-sur-Alzette – European Capital of Culture in Timișoara. ” – Mihai Vilcea, president of the Timiș County Foundation for Youth

For Analog Mania it is not the first event of this year. At the Vinyl & Music 2022 festival, which took place on March 5 and 6 in Vienna, an information stand and an exhibition were set up where works by Daliana Pavel and Cristian Anghel – ceramics were exhibited; Virgil Babuscov, Alina Sferle, Rene Schaeffer, Stephan Schwarz, Adrian Anastasiu and Marius Parghel – photography; Benjamin Kiesewetter – DIY object; Robert & Shanyio – sound; Eric & Emil Kindlein – video installation, as well as postcards made by young artists from Timișoara1. – project funded by the Creative Europe program

The Analog Route is an integral part of the Timișoara 2023 Bidbook, which is composed of 3 main pillars:
· Analog Experience, which includes interaction and initiation activities for the public such as workshops, happenings in public spaces or in alternative locations, itinerant museum experience;
· Analog Mania, a festival established in the Timișoara area with a “tradition from 2013” that brings together works made by international artists, exhibited for a month in Timișoara;
· The “Embassy” of the Analog Route – a pilot project that wants to be a spokesperson abroad for both local artists (especially young people) and the Timișoara 2023 cultural program.

The cultural project is included in the priority cultural program TM2023 RESTART of the Project Center of Timișoara Municipality, realized with the support of Timișoara City Hall and Timișoara Local Council. The project does not necessarily represent the position of the Timișoara City Hall and the Timișoara Local Council. The content of the cultural project and how its results can be used are the sole responsibility of the authors and the beneficiary of the funding. Timișoara City Hall and Timișoara Local Council are not responsible for the content of the material and how it may be used.
